Preparation of Alumina and Yttria-Coated SiC Powder by the Surfaced-induced Precipitation Method
ABSTRACT
To obtain homogeneously mixed powders and minimize the amount of sintering aids in the liquid-phase sintering of SiC alumina and yttria-coated SiC powder was prepared by a surface-induced precipitation method. After a well dispersion of SiC powders in the aqueous solution of {{{{ { { {Al }_{2 }(SO }_{4 }) }_{3 } }} and {{{{ { { {Y }_{2 }(SO }_{4 }) }_{3 } }} the mixed precursors of aluminum hydroxide aluminum carbonate yttrium hydroxide and yttrium carbonate were precipitated on the surfaces of SiC particles through the hydrolysis reaction of urea. SiC powders coated with alumina yttria and their compounds were obtained by the calcination of SiC powders coated by oxides precursors and the thinckess of coated layer increased with increasing the concentration of aqueous metal basic solution
